Envelopes “Stuck” Together Delay Barcoding and Sorting
Although it is necessary to seal all envelopes before mailing, care must be taken to avoid envelopes “sticking” together in the trays. “Stuck” mail cannot be processed at Access Mail until it is manually separated, normally the next business day. Just like at the US Postal Service, these “stuck” envelopes would be rejected by the high-speed processing equipment, resulting in delays, returns and/or higher postage costs.
Avoid envelopes sticking together:
- Be sure water/solution levels in your meter don’t saturate the flap adhesive.
- Fan the envelopes as they come off the meter/conveyor, before placing them in the mail tray.
- Don’t overfill mail trays, jamming the still-damp letters together.
- Spot check the envelopes to make sure they are not sticking together.
